Dear Partners,
We continue to extend our gratitude for the work you do to support Illinois residents during this crisis. We know this hasn't been easy; and as the days have grown into weeks and months, it only gets harder. We are aware of the ongoing challenges you face, particularly regarding the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE). IDHS faces those same struggles at our State-run facilities.
Today, we have good news to share on this front. IDHS will be distributing non-NIOSH (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health) KN95 masks to community-based organizations beginning this week. To make this as efficient as possible, IDHS identified partner organizations to distribute these face coverings, based on the division or program type. If you have any questions about the appropriate use of PPE, please visit the CDC website guidance on PPE use.
For provider organizations funded through the Divisions of Developmental Disabilities, Family and Community Services (except child care), Mental Health, and Substance Use Prevention and Recovery, IDHS has partnered with the Illinois Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (IARF) for the distribution.
For those funded by the Division of Rehabilitation Services, providers will be able to request these KN95 masks through the DRS local offices and the Illinois Network of Centers for Independent Living (INCIL).
Child care centers will be able to request these KN95 masks through the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies and Minerva Promotions.
The process for requesting these KN95 masks will be provided via Division-specific communications.
IDHS greatly appreciates your work to keep our communities safe. We remain committed to the health, safety, and well-being of those we serve and those who help us in that endeavor.
Sincerely,
Grace B. Hou
Secretary, IDHS
