In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SAMHSA is offering several resources for mental and substance use disorder treatment providers and others. Prevention Training:
May 12, 2020 (10:00am - 11:00am): Vaping 101 & Trends Among Youth in Illinois
Dr. Brian Williams of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health will present an overview on vaping, including basic facts of vaping and how it works, the harm it causes, and current national youth vaping stats and trends. Jake Levinson will share Illinois-specific data regarding vaping use among youth - taken from the 2018 Illinois Youth Survey.
Gambling Disorder Webinars:
IDHS/SUPR is continuing to expand screening, assessment, treatment, case management, community intervention, and recovery support services for individuals with gambling disorders.

The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) launched a Telehealth website to expand health care access. The website provides information about the latest federal efforts to support and promote telehealth services. Please visit https://Telehealth.hhs.gov.
The National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers (NCTRC) hosts an educational webinar every third Thursday of the month from 11am-12pm PT. Please visit https://www.telehealthresourcecenter.org for more information.

The Harm Reduction Coalition advances policies and programs that help people address the adverse effects of drug use including overdose, HIV, hepatitis C, addition, and incarceration. https://harmreduction.org.
Vaping Among Illinois Youth:
Vaping nicotine and THC has become a significant issue for Illinois youth. There has been a dramatic increase in use from 2016 to 2018 for Illinois students as measured by the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS) Youth Tobacco Use and Vaping in Illinois brief. An article by Dr. Lily Balasuriya for the Prevention Technology Transfer Center Network (https://pttcnetwork.org/centers/global-pttc/when-it-comes-preventing-electronic-cigarettes-and-vaping-related-products) highlights some of the main effects of vaping both nicotine and THC as well as some great suggestions for prevention.
Funding Opportunities:
HHS-HRSA Rural Communities Opioid Response Program-Implementation: Will advance RCORP's overall goal by strengthening and expanding SUD/OUD prevention, treatment, and recovery services to enhance rural residents' ability to access treatment and move towards recovery. Eligible applicants include all domestic public or private, non-profit or for-profit entities, including faith-based and community-based organizations, tribes, and tribal organizations. Due: May 26, 2020

Treatment, Recovery, and Workforce Support Grant: SAMHSA plans to issue 8 grants of up to $500,000 per year for up to 5 years. Eligible applicants are entities that provide treatment or recovery services for individuals with SUDs and partner with one or more local or state stakeholders, which may include community organizations, the local workforce development board, local and state governments, and Indian tribes or tribal organizations. State Opioid Response Technical Assistance: SAMHSA plans to issue 1 grant of up to $16,607,000 per year for two years. Eligible applicants are domestic, public, and private non-profit entities. Due: June 7,020
