The Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Mental Health (DMH) is excited to announce a $15M annualized investment to restore and revitalize the Illinois Community Mental Health Service System. SUPR and DMH see this as an opportunity for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery organizations to expand their ability to serve individuals with co-occurring disorders.
DMH is introducing these three new programs that are specifically designed to respond to several unmet needs of individuals experiencing mental illnesses. Building upon recovery values, DMH will ensure access to necessary services and supports along the continuum of State Operated Psychiatric Hospitals (SOPH) to community services and will foster partnership between SOPH staff responsible for discharge planning and community providers of services.
To achieve successful transition of individuals leaving the IDHS/DMH State Operated Psychiatric Hospitals, DMH will contract with community mental health centers and non-traditional service providers to build capacity and deliver an array of clinical services and non-traditional supports to these individuals, as well as develop community supports to divert crises that could result in hospitalization. The involvement of Consumer Operated Service Providers, including through subcontracting relationships, is strongly encouraged to meet the goals and objectives of this project. SUPR also encourages SUD treatment and recovery organizations to involve local Recovery Community Organizations (RCO) or partner with the Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) council in your area (https://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx?item=117096).
