PM I-05-02: Summer EBT

  • The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 (PL 117-328), provides for a federally funded Summer Food Assistance Program that is intended to reduce hunger and food insecurities for children who lose access to free and reduced-price meals through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the National Breakfast Program (NBP) during the summer when school is not in session.
  • Summer EBT benefits are only issued for eligible children. Only Summer EBT household members or other persons selected by them, may use Summer EBT benefits to purchase food for the household. Benefits are issued via the Illinois Link system and may be used to purchase the same items that are eligible under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), see PM I-05-01.
