The code in Item 53 is used to determine the Payment Level for the case.

AIS requires entry of the County of Residence field on CAF screen 1B1 at registration, approval, and denial.
Code Item 53 based on the county of residence indicated on the application. If the county of residence is blank or questionable, staff may use MapQuest "Map" feature to determine the county of residence. Once the address is displayed in Mapquest, you can use the zoom function to modify the display and determine the county of residence.
When staff manually calculate eligibility or benefit amount, they should use the standards and payment levels corresponding to Item 53. Item 53 does not affect the group number or processing schedules.
For active cases, enter the Item 53 code via ACM or IPACS. Item 53 is required for all categories and most case actions when Item 53 is blank.
