WAG 23-05-01-a: Recoupment

PM 23-05-01-a.

  • Example 1: A mother and her 2 children receive TANF. An overpayment is set up against the TANF case. Central recoupment is started against the case.
  • Example 2: A mother, father, and their 2 children receive TANF. An overpayment is set up against the TANF case. Central recoupment begins. The father leaves the home. Central recoupment continues since the mother was part of the original overpaid TANF case.
  • Example 3: A mother and her 2 children receive TANF. An overpayment is set up against the TANF case. Central recoupment begins. The mother leaves the home and the 2 children now live with their father. He receives TANF Cash for himself and the 2 children. Recoupment is not done against this case since the father was not a member of the original overpaid TANF case.

When an overpayment occurs on an active case that contains only children, the overpayment is referred for recoupment against the caretaker relative. The recoupment is from the active RPY case.

  • Example: A parent receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and is RPY of a TANF case for her 2 children. An overpayment occurs on the TANF case. Complete Overpayment Referral (Form 2404). Refer the TANF overpayment for recoupment.
