PM 23-05-01: Cash Overpayments

WAG 23-05-01

Clients must repay cash overpayments, even if the error was made by the Department.

For active cases, overpayments found on or after 10/01/81 are recouped from future cash benefits. The overpayment is deducted monthly from the family's current benefits.

Refer the overpayment to the Bureau of Collections (BOC) for recovery when it involves:

• closed cases;
• active cases where the overpayment was found before 10/01/81; or
• a duplicate check for supportive services.

Customers who have their cash benefits expunged and have an outstanding cash overpayment will have their overpayment reduced by the expunged amount.
