HFS pays for medical care needed to treat a person's illness or disability, for people who qualify. HFS will not pay for medical expenses that can be obtained free or paid for by another source, such as health insurance.
HFS only pays for medical expenses that meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. HFS directly pays the provider of the services or supplies.
HFS has the right to review individual situations to decide whether the medical care being provided is essential. HFS makes its decision based on recommendations from technical and medical staff. Sometimes clients have to get approval for services from HFS before the services are given.
