PM 14-06-00: Minor Parent Live-at-home (TANF)

WAG 14-06-00.

Pregnant women and parents who are under age 18 must live with their parent, legal guardian, or adult relative, or in a maternity home or other adult-supervised arrangement to qualify for TANF assistance for themselves and their children. There are exceptions to this requirement. A pregnant woman or parent under 18 is not required to meet this requirement if:

  • they are exempt, or
  • they have not received TANF for 6 months without living with their parent, legal guardian, or adult relative, or in a maternity home or other adult-supervised arrangement, or being exempt.

Parent liability and TANF filing unit policy apply to pregnant women and parents under age 18 who live with their parent(s). If the minor has siblings in the home who receive TANF, the minor parent and child must be included in the same TANF unit with their siblings.

When the minor parent has received TANF for 6 months without meeting the live-at-home requirement or any of the exemption criteria, the case must be changed to Medical Only.
