Housing costs for a home temporarily unoccupied by the household due to employment or training away from the home, illness, natural disaster, or casualty loss may be allowed.
Verification of housing costs is required for SNAP. If verification of housing costs is not provided by the SNAP household at initial application, at redetermination, or during the certification period when a change of housing cost or address is reported, issue a Verification Checklist (IL444-0267) requesting proof of housing costs. If the verification is not provided, the housing cost expense is not allowed on the SNAP case.
When a SNAP
household has both an occupied home and an unoccupied home, only one utility standard is allowed. The appropriate utility standard may be allowed for the home the SNAP
household chooses.
