Underground coal miners who are totally disabled by pneumoconiosis (black lung disease) may be eligible for black lung benefits under the Federal Coal Mine Health and Safety Act of 1969. Dependents or survivors of persons with black lung disease may
also be eligible for these benefits. Benefits are intended to supplement Workers' Compensation, Unemployment Insurance, or Social Security benefits. SSA determines eligibility for these benefits.
