Social Security Administration (SSA) offices accept applications from people who want to apply for SNAP when everyone applying together receives or is applying for Supplemental Security Income (SSI). In addition, the applicant(s) must not:
- already receive SNAP; or
- have applied for SNAP in the past 30 days; or
- have a pending SNAP application.
This is called joint processing. For joint processing applications, the application date is the date the SSA office received the SNAP application.
For a person who applies for SNAP while in a public institution, the application date is the date the person is released from the institution.
