Contact the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) to report abuse and neglect when observed, or when reported by the general public.
Call the DCFS 24-hour Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-25 ABUSE (800-252-2873) if you suspect that a child has been harmed or at risk of being harmed by abuse or neglect. If you believe a child is in immediate danger call 911 first. In non-emergency situations, suspected child abuse or neglect can be reported using the Online Reporting System https://dcfsonlinereporting.dcfs.illinois.gov/.
Provide as much information as possible to help DCFS identify or locate the child.
Document in IES case comments, any possible abuse or neglect reported to DCFS, written or verbal.
