DRAFT: Increase Training Requirements in the Area of Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation


This informational bulletin is to advise community agencies currently providing developmental disability services of the increase in requirements in the area of refresher training for Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation.


Currently most refresher training is completed through the use of OIG Rule 50 curricula. Refresher training is presently required every two years. The Department will now require that a minimum of one hour of Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation refresher training be completed on an annual basis.

Process and Procedures

The Department recognizes a need for a fresh new process in regards to Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation training. In addition to materials currently being utilized by community agencies for Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation refresher training, it is the intent of the Department to distribute informational materials to developmental disability service providers on a quarterly basis in order to better promote awareness of Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation. Community agencies are also encouraged to promote awareness of Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation through the use of new preventative materials that they may have available.

Bureau of Quality Enhancement is requesting agencies submit abuse/neglect/exploitation training that has been innovative and successful in lowering the incidents of reportable events to the email below.

Effective Date

The effective date requiring the Abuse/Neglect/Exploitation refresher training to be completed on an annual basis is July 1, 2017.
