Procedures for Medical Emergencies - (03.03.09/04-19)§1302.47 (7)

Including but not limited to the following:

  • Bleeding that will not stop
  • Breathing problems (difficulty breathing, shortness of breath)
  • Bone fractures
  • Change in mental status (such as unusual behavior, confusion, difficulty arousing from sleep)
  • Chest pain
  • Choking
  • Coughing up or vomiting blood
  • Fainting or loss of consciousness
  • Head or spine injury
  • Severe or persistent vomiting
  • Sudden injury due to a motor vehicle accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, deep or large wound, etc.
  • Sudden, severe pain anywhere in the body
  • Sudden dizziness, weakness, or change in vision
  • Swallowing a poisonous substance
  • Upper abdominal pain or pressure


Do not waste time evaluating or trying to treat an injury, condition or illness.

  1. Call 911.
  2. Call a staff-person who is qualified to administer first aid or CPR until the ambulance arrives.
