Each type of sanction has its own Item 80 code. The child support sanction code is 165 CSNC, the School Attendance Initiative sanction code is 166 SSNC, and the activity sanction code is 176 ASNC. If the client has previously failed to cooperate and been sanctioned for a requirement, that code is present in Item 80 with the client's RIN.
When more than one person in the case has failed to cooperate with the activity requirement, enter a different code 176 ASNC in Item 80 for each person (distinguished by the RIN). If the case has no sanction codes yet (code 165, 166, or 176), the sanction with the first person's RIN is at level 1, and the sanction with the 2nd person's RIN is at level 2.
If the case already has one or more codes 165, 166, and/or 176, determine the highest level for these sanctions. If the highest previous level was one, impose the new sanctions at levels 2 and 3. If the highest previous level was 2 or 3, impose all new sanctions at level 3.
Leave the codes on the case even after the sanction periods are over. They remain as a record of the sanction level. If a person fails to cooperate with the activity requirement again, the new code 176 replaces the old one with the same RIN.
The system computes Item 90 code 512 and reduces the cash benefit based on the active sanction code that has the most severe penalty. For example, if there is a level 1 sanction in the 4th month and a level 2 sanction in the 2nd month, the cash benefit is zero, based on the level 1 sanction. If there is a level 2 sanction in the first 3 months and a level 3 sanction (any month), the cash benefit is zero, based on the level 3 sanction.
When one of the codes becomes inactive, the system automatically adjusts the code 512 amount.
