  3. Approval of Minutes
Commissioner Nelson motioned to approve the minutes of June 8th and July 13th. Motion seconded by Commissioner Rodriguez. Minutes approved.
  4. Debrief: September DMC Forum
    1. Review of forum attendee evaluations
Karima Douglas gave a general overview of attendee evaluations about the event. Overall, attendees found the event to be really informative and useful for their jobs. They asked that future forums allow more time for panel questions and discussion.
    2. Thoughts from forum planners/committee members
Sarah Yousuf suggested that there be more community members in attendance at the next forum. Stephanie Kollmann thought there was a strong positive reaction to the first panel on stop and frisk because there was open and honest conversation about a point of disagreement. The Committee discussed how significant panelist diversity was to this event and that we should be even more intentional about that diversity going forward. Commissioner Davis provided written comments asking for a more explicit "call to action" in future forums. Committee members also suggested more movement and audience participation which will likely mean a bigger space.
    3. Discussion of café "harvest"
Karima Douglas led the committee through a discussion of attendee submitted action steps re: DMC reduction. She highlighted things that the DMC Committee could do to implement those suggestions. Rob Vickery and Stephanie Kollmann volunteered to bring relevant suggested issues up with specific decision makers.
  5. DMC Forum Planning: School to Prison Pipeline
    1. Tentative Date: 11/30/15
Committee members suggested pushing this date back to early December to account for the recent Thanksgiving holiday.
    2. Commissioner Franco-Payne led the Committee through a brainstorming conversation re: the next forum in the DMC series on the school to prison pipeline. The Committee reviewed a draft agenda for the event and modfied the format so that the event revolves around small group discussions rather than presentations. Panelists will be available to answer questions and guide the discussion and "harvests" will happen throughout the day. Era Laudermilk suggested that the keynote presenter be Professor David Stovall who has expertise in the area of race, social justice and education. Karima Douglas will follow up on planning the event.
  6. New Business | Public Comment
YAB Update- Karima Douglas updated the committee about the status of the Youth Advisory Board. Chairperson Franco-Payne asked that the YAB consultant Alicia Diebold provide the update at future meetings. She also suggested that recruitment efforts target IDJJ and juvenile probation.
  7. Next Meeting Date- November 9, 2015
  8. Adjourn
Commissioner Nelson motioned to adjourn. Chairman Franco-Payne seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 11:21am.
