Infant/Toddler Rooms Daily Sanitation Guide Policy Number and Last Update (03.03.02e/01-2019) §1302.47 (6)

This procedure will be followed daily in both the infant and the toddler rooms. It is each teacher's responsibility to see that these practices are carried out DAILY:

  1. Always wash hands at the times and using the methods outlined in the IMSHS Hand Washing Procedure.
  2. Sterilize used bottles and nipples and allow to air dry at the end of each day and as needed. (See also IMSHS Infant Feeding Procedures)
  3. Always change diapers and sanitize potty chairs per IMSHS procedures.
  4. Wash all crib surfaces with soap and water, sanitize with bleach/water* solution at the end of each day.
  5. Wash the seat and tray of each feeding table or high chair with soap and water, sanitize with bleach/water* solution after each use. Wash all surfaces of the feeding tables and high chairs using the same technique at the end of each day.
  6. Sweep and/or mop up any spills around feeding tables and high chairs after each meal or feeding.
  7. Soak mouthed toys after each child's use in a basin of soap and water, until time permits washing, sanitizing*, and air drying.
  8. Wash all toys with soap and water, dip clean with bleach/water* solution and air dry at the end of each day.
  9. Use separate towels or washcloths for each child to wash faces before and after meals and as necessary. Use separate towels for each child for bathing. Each child's towel and washcloth must be marked with his/her name. Rinse soiled washcloths individually under running tap water after each use and hang to dry. Never return washcloths to a common water container. Launder used towels and washcloths at the end of each day.
  10. Launder sheets and blankets twice a week or more frequently if necessary.

*Bleach Sanitizing Solution: Mix one-fourth cup of household bleach to one gallon of water or 1 tablespoon of bleach to one quart of water. This solution must be kept in labeled containers used ONLY for this purpose, placed out of the reach of the children, and not near food or drink items. It must be made fresh daily as it deteriorates rapidly, and the unused portion disposed of at the end of the day by pouring down the sink drain or toilet.
