IES Phase 2 Process
Upon certification of benefits, each SNAP unit is mailed a notice of eligibility that includes the date that the approval period expires.
One Month Approval
If not centrally mailed, the local office sends each SNAP unit approved for one month a notice of eligibility that includes the date that its approval expires. The last date by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing SNAP benefits is the date which is 17 calendar days from the date entered at the top of the notice of eligibility. If the 17th day is not a workday, the first workday after the 17th day is the last day by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.
2-Month Approval
If not centrally mailed, the local office sends each SNAP unit approved for a 2-month period a notice of eligibility that includes the date that its approval expires.
- If the unit is approved by the 28th day of the first fiscal month of the 2-month approval period, the notice of eligibility and the date of expiration of approval must be sent between the 13th and 28th day of the first fiscal month. The last day by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits is the 15th day of the 2nd fiscal month. If the 15th day of the 2nd fiscal month is not a workday, the first workday after the 15th day is the last date to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.
- If the notice is mailed after the 28th day of the first fiscal month, the last date by which the unit must reapply to ensure ongoing SNAP benefits is the date which is 17 calendar days from the date entered at the top of the notice of eligibility. If the 17th day is not a workday, the first workday after the 17th day is the last date to reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.
More than 2 Month Approval - Notice Centrally Generated
Each SNAP unit that is approved for benefits is mailed a notice of expiration of eligibility and the brochure, Guide to Services. Upon certification, the computer generated notice and the Guide to Services brochure are centrally mailed to the SNAP unit about 60 calendar days before the expiration date of the approval period. The central notice indicates the last day by which the SNAP unit must reapply to ensure ongoing benefits.
Note: The date is the 15th day of the last month in the approval periods.
