2) an important component of healing from racism involves self-reflection
3) by honoring each others' lived experiences as racial beings, we affirm each other's humanity
NO MUSICAL TALENT REQUIRED FOR THE DRUM CIRCLE! DRUMS PROVIDED BY FACILITATORS.
Detailed Description: We are thrilled to once again bring together Dr. Rahul Sharma and the Rhythm Ambassadors of Funkadesi (Carlos Antonio Cornier, Kwame Steve Cobb, Rich Conti, and Maninderpal Singh) with Elastic Arts through this #HealingIllinois initiative. This immersive experience of forming a multicultural drum circle is designed to promote collective healing within and across communities. This is protected time to increase self-understanding, learn how to affirm our humanity, and honor each others' lived experiences as racial beings. Learn West African, North India, Latin and Brazilian rhythms from the Rhythm Ambassadors of Funkadesi. Experience their process of creating intercultural rhythms through mutual respect, trust, humility, and an availability to listen. The instruction and participatory drum circle will be paired with self-reflection prompts and facilitated dialogue by Dr. Rahul Sharma.
Other Info: Bring your own lunch, or arrange to pre-order and retrieve during the 30 minute lunch break. (A discounted pre-order option from Chiya Chai will be provided in advance.) Snacks and water will be provided. Attendance in the full three-hour experience is REQUIRED (late arrivals and early departures are not permitted), and space is limited. So, after checking your availability, please complete this registration form to secure your spot. Again, you must receive an email confirmation to secure your space.
NOTE: While the facilitators have designed this experience to balance psychological safety with stimulating and evocative components, portions of the day may be activating/triggering for some. Please tend to your needs along the way and know all participation is voluntary.
