WAG 15-04-04-d
When a person who has no spouse and/or dependent child(ren) at home is admitted to a nursing home for what is expected to be a temporary period (6 months or less), allow a deduction for the person to maintain a home in the community. The temporary nature of the admittance must be certified by a doctor.
To determine the allowance, include rent or property expenses and utility expenses that would be allowed in the AABD Cash Assistance Standard if the person was home.
Allow the deduction for up to 6 months. At the end of 6 months, stop the deduction and determine if the person will be returning home or staying in the nursing home. Do NOT allow the deduction for more than a total of 6 months.
Short term treatment in a hospital is not considered residence in a facility.
