PMP Joining SUPR

The Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program is coming to SUPR!

The Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR) is excited to announce that the Illinois Prescription Monitoring Program (ILPMP) will be moving from IDHS Office of Clinical, Administrative, and Program Support to SUPR. This action will move the unit within IDHS to the division whose mission and area of focus aligns best with the ILPMP. On April 1, 2024, the ILPMP will start to report to SUPR under the Office of the Chief of Staff. Users of the ILPMP will not notice any difference as the ILPMP day to day activities will not change.

The ILPMP is an electronic database that collects, tracks and stores reported data for controlled substances in schedules II-V and selected drugs of interest, as well as other types of healthcare information. The ILPMP serves as an essential tool to ensure the safe use of controlled substances and other drugs. Utilizing the ILPMP supports clinical decisions and improves patient outcomes.

Healthcare providers and their designees can view 12 months of a patient's prescription history to assist with clinical decisions regarding prescribing and dispensing. Prescribers can also view a history of prescriptions dispensed under their DEA number. Dispensers, prescribers, and their designees can register for an account at ILPMP.org. The data in the ILPMP database is reported by pharmacies, Outpatient Treatment Programs with patient consent, and other state departments.

The ILPMP was authorized by the Illinois Controlled Substances Act (720 ILCS 570/316) and strictly adheres to HIPAA and all access, disclosure, and confidentiality provisions of Illinois and federal Law.

On April 1, 2024, the ILPMP will start to report to SUPR under the Office of the Chief of Staff. Users of the ILPMP will not notice any difference as the ILPMP day to day activities will not change. Please refer all questions regarding the move to the SUPR HelpDesk.
