Illinois Learning Collaborative to Support Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR)

Implementation for Justice-Involved Populations

  • Expert technical assistance for county teams interested in starting or expanding MAR programs in their jail, and to support continued recovery support in the community post-release.
  • Priority Population- Illinois State Overdose Action Plan identifies justice-involved individuals as high priority for receiving services to treat and prevent overdose.
  • Treatment for incarcerated people is one of the eight core abatement strategies for overdose settlement funds in IL.

Defining MAR for Justice Populations

MAR in Jails

MAR for Justice Populations includes re-entry support, access to behavioral health and other services, implementation of at least two forms of the FDA-approved medications, other evidence based interventions, and access to naloxone for overdose prevention.

Since inception of the program in January 2022 to March 2023, 387 Unique clients have been seen. 52% of them continue MAR in post-release, and there have been 20 learning sessions and 1 statewide conference.
