PM 08-02-02-b: Roomer or Boarder

WAG 08-02-02-b.

Money paid by roomers or boarders to a client who is self-employed in the business of renting rooms is earned income.

If the client is in the business of providing room and board, allow the following business expenses when determining eligibility and benefit amount:

• For the replacement of towels and bed linen allow $1.50 per item.
• For laundry allow 55¢ per boarder for additional supplies when the client launders the linen, or when laundry is done commercially, the boarder's share.
• For food allow a food allowance as follows:
  • if the boarder receives Healthcare and Family Services cash benefits allow the food portion of the AABD personal allowance; or
  • if the boarder does not receive Healthcare and Family Services cash benefits allow the food portion of the AABD personal allowance plus 25%.
• Any earned income disregards that the client qualifies for.

If the client is in the business of providing room only, allow only the earned income disregards that the client qualifies for.
