May 26, 2022, DDD Communication

Good Morning,

Since announcing my departure from the Division earlier this week my inbox has been flooded. I want to thank everyone who reached out to me to send congratulations. I've never felt more appreciated. There is so much I am going to miss from Illinois, including the amazing people I've had the honor to work with as the Director. My departure is certainly bittersweet.

QUICK NOTES

RULE 115 UPDATE

Great news! We anticipate First Notice will be published in the June 10, 2022, version of the Illinois Register. First Notice will run from June 10 through July 25. This is a pared down version of our previous draft in order to be able to better manage comments. Be on the lookout!

WEBINAR OPPORTUNITY: CANNABIS REGULATION & TAX ACT AND ITS IMPACT ON PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

Join Equip for Equality's Barry Taylor and Sophia Lau for a webinar on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 1pm to 3pm. In 2019, the Cannabis Regulation & Tax Act was signed into law. In addition to decriminalizing possession of marijuana, the Act has been heralded as the most equity-centric legislation in the country because it creates a process to expunge past cannabis convictions. On June 1 at 1:00, Equip for Equality will provide a free legal rights training on the new law and opportunities for people with disabilities. The training will include: 1) an overview of the law, 2) how to expunge cannabis convictions, 3) how the law impacts the ADA, employment, housing and immigration, 4) employment opportunities in the cannabis industry, and 5) information about free legal resources for expungement.

Warmly,
