What is the purpose of this service?
The purpose of this program it to improve breastfeeding support, initiation and duration rates, to reduce infant mortality, to improve cognitive abilities and overall long term health benefits of infants and children, and to reduce the incidence of obesity in childhood and later life.
Who can receive these services?
- Women who are enrolled in the WIC Program and are pregnant, breastfeeding or just had a baby.
What services are offered?
Specialized breastfeeding education, encouragement and support to pregnant and breastfeeding women and their infants
Telephone consultations, hospital visits, support groups, may provide home or hospital visits
Assist with breast pump use and provide outreach to hospitals and physicians on breastfeeding services
How to apply?
Services are provided in 78 counties throughout the state as part of the IL WIC program.
