An application or request to add the newborn to the mother's case is not required.
The newborn must be born in the United States.
A newborn that is placed for adoption, can be added to the Moms and Babies case until the child is placed for adoption, if the placement occurs in the application month or in the 3 months before the application. A newborn that dies can also be added to the Moms and Babies case if the death occurs in the application month or in the 3 months before the application.
A newborn eligible for Moms and Babies remains eligible until the child attains one year of age as long as the child is a resident of Illinois.
