IDHS/SUPR and IDPH Harm Reduction Funding Opportunity

The Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (IDHS/SUPR) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) believe in and support substance use harm reduction services in Illinois. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of Illinois residents who have overdosed, suffered concomitant health problems, and have died due to overdose, rose sharply. For this reason, IDHS/SUPR and IDPH intend to defer to Syringe Service Programs and other harm reduction organizations applying for new federal funding that has become available here: Harm Reduction Grant Program.

The funding opportunity is unprecedented as the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Service Administration (SAMHSA) takes a stand to support harm reduction services across the nation. This is the first funding opportunity that SAMHSA has released focused on harm reduction services and our agencies are supportive of Illinois organizations applying!
