PM 06-06-01: Disabled Adult Children

WAG 06-06-01

A disabled adult child is a person who:

• is 18 or older, and
• became disabled or blind before age 22.

A disabled adult child can receive medical benefits if they meet the following:

• received Supplemental Security Income (SSI) because of their disability or blindness; and
• lost their SSI because of new or increased social security benefits; and
• meet all AABD Cash eligibility requirements, except for income.

If someone who has lost SSI benefits meets the above criteria, approve medical benefits as an AABD Cash zero grant case.

NOTE: A disabled adult child who is eligible for social security benefits draws the benefits based on a parent's wage record. The social security claim number suffix for a disabled adult child begins with a C (for child's benefit).
