ADVISORY COUNCIL MINUTES

May 18, 2021

In attendance (via Zoom): Maryanne Kelly, Letitia Doe (Superintendent) Wanda McNeal, Kerrie Rawlings, Mary McAloon, Marcina Adams, Louis Hamer (DHS), Darci Contri, Therese Manderino,, Peter Quinn, Tina Cole, Michael Landau

The meeting was called to order at 9:05 am

  1. Review of Minutes
    • Minutes for November 17, 2020, January 19, 2021, & March 16, 2021 meetings were reviewed and approved.
  2. Superintendent's Report, Letitia Doe
    • Students have returned to school full time. Two students are continuing remote. All staff are back.
    • PEP students are continuing remote. The principal at Vaughn is retiring. A meeting is planned with the new principal.
    • Graduation plans will be finalized soon. Board will be notified of date.
    • Students have the opportunity to delay graduation and stay at ICRE for an extra year due to Covid closures.
    • The website for ICRE is being rebuilt. The website will need a host.
    • Kerrie Rawlings said that all DHS sites will be standardized. Minutes and agendas will be included on the agency websites. Kerrie may be able to help with a possible host for the website. She will reach out to Alan Long from ICRE who is working on this.
    • There are working opportunities this summer for the students. This will be a day program at school.
    • One student at ICRE got Covid. No other staff or students had cases. Thanks to the Nursing Staff who did an excellent job of handling this.
    • The building was deep cleaned. There is on-going, extra cleaning to ensure safety. The walls have been painted and the carpeting on the hallway walls has been removed.
    • New staff was hired, including 2 educators and 1 RCW who is Spanish speaking. She was a previous employee.
    • There are additional openings. Letitia said that new hiring procedures with the state are helping with finding staff.
    • Kerrie Rawlings complimented school team for all the work they have done to get the students back in school.
  3. Foundation Report, Therese Manderino
    • The Foundation received the grant from UIC for the entrepreneurs. Remote learning is difficult for many students, but they are learning a lot and making progress with the start up funds.
    • At the statewide transition conference, the University of Illinois will have a presentation on the entrepreneur partnership with ICRE.
    • The state is working on a website for DHS cohorts, doing work with community engagement. There is assistance for Therese to build her website which will be included in the cohort website.
    • Abilities Expo is scheduled 6/26-6/27 in Schaumburg at the Expo center. ICRE entrepreneurs will have a table. Board members are encouraged to attend.
    • One ICRE entrepreneur applied for and received a $20,000 PPP loan! He wants to use it to buy his own equipment.
  4. New Business
    • Michael asked if the board members' list had been updated. Maryanne has reached out to all members. Membership is now finalized.

    • There is no old business.
  6. Adjournment
    • Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 am.
    • Date of next meeting: Tuesday, June 8, 2021 @ 9:00 am via Zoom. Meetings will continue as Zoom until it is considered safe for non-staff to enter the building.
