OnTrackNY: A CSC Model Serving Youth with FEP Through SED/SEM

This presentation will describe the OnTrackNY model of providing coordinated specialty care treatment and services to young people who have recently experienced a first episode of psychosis. Learners will hear about how evidence-based practices form the core of this innovative approach to providing recipients/participants with high quality effective care. There will be a focus on how the EBP Individual Placement and Support model of supported employment plays a central role in shaping supported employment and education services.

Gary Scannevin, Jr., M.P.S., CPRP

Gary has worked in the mental health sector of healthcare for 33 years. His entire career has focused on providing vocational and educational services in a range of modalities that include: Sheltered train and place, Clubhouse transitional employment, Enclave employment, IPRT, Continuing day treatment, Assisted competitive employment, Personalized Recovery Oriented Services, and Individual placement and support employment. Gary is currently an Individual Placement and Support Trainer at the Center for Practice Innovations at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University Psychiatry. His primary mission at CPI is training Supported Education and Employment Specialists (SEES) in both OnTrackNY and OnTrackUSA. These programs provide services to participants who have recently experienced a first episode of psychosis. The SEES are trained to provide services that are anchored in the evidence-based practice of the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model that was developed at the Dartmouth Psychiatric Research Center. Additionally, Gary brings IPS training to the ACT Institute as well as the Personalized Recovery Oriented Services initiative both located within the Center for Practice Innovations. Gary's undergraduate studies were at Texas A&M University and Sam Houston State University where he earned bachelor's degrees in sociology and psychology respectively. He earned a Master of Professional Studies degree in Labor Management from Stony Brook University. Additionally, Gary is a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner through the Psychiatric Rehabilitation Association and has been certified as a Work Incentive Planner by the New York Makes Work Pay program at Cornell.
