A month does not count against the 04 caretaker's 60-month limit if during any part of the fiscal month:
- the client attends an accredited Associate's or Bachelor's degree program full-time, as defined by the school;
- the degree program is approved by the Family Community Resource Center Administrator (or designee) as part of the client's RSP; and
- the client had at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA on a 4-point scale at the end of the previous grading period. Use the cumulative GPA verified by the school.
The client must attend a degree program full-time for at least one full grading term and receive at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA before the clock stops for subsequent months. The clock does not stop during that first term. Do not reduce
the counter for the months of the first term after it is over.
January 1999 is the first month not to be counted based on the degree program criteria. A client's cumulative GPA that includes terms before January 1999 counts toward meeting the criteria. Stop the clock for January 1999 if the client:
- was in an approved full-time degree program in 01/99 and
- had at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA for their most recent grading term that ended before 01/99.
Months in which the client does not attend school do count against the 60-month limit. For example, a client attends school September through May. She does not attend during the summer. The months of June, July, and August count
toward the 60-month limit.
A client may stop the 60-month count under this policy for a lifetime maximum of 36 months. Keep track of the months not counted by recording them in the case record.
This policy does not apply to either parent in an 06 case or to the 2nd adult (spouse of the caretaker or 2nd parent) in an 04 case.
