New Dedicated Gambling Programs Across the State
The Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (IDHS/SUPR) is pleased to welcome our newest Dedicated Gambling Program award recipients. We congratulate these organizations and welcome them to the current group of dedicated gambling programs that assist IDHS/SUPR with the expansion of outreach and treatment services for people who suffer from gambling disorders.
The new group of nine awardees bring years of experience working with substance use and mental health disorders in the communities where they serve. We look forward to collaborating with each organization as they expand their services to include gambling.
Out of the nine new recipients, five will provide community outreach services only, while the additional four will provide both gambling treatment services and community outreach services.
The organizations funded to only provide community outreach services will provide aggressive outreach to populations and areas of the state that are most impacted by the expansion of gambling in Illinois. These organizations will use their expertise in their communities to aggressively reach populations that are at risk for gambling disorder due to geographic, demographic, cultural and/or economic factors and may be underserved due to these factors.
The IDHS/SUPR licensed organizations will establish programs that specifically address gambling disorders through screening, assessment, treatment, case management and recovery support. These organizations will also provide aggressive community outreach through education and awareness related to gambling.
The addition of these providers expands gambling disorder services and community awareness to the Central, Northwest, Southern and Chicagoland areas of the state. Each provider will begin serving their communities July 1, 2020.
