Volume XII, Issue XXV - December 2018

From: Danielle L. Kirby, Director
Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery

The Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (IDHS/SUPR) is pleased to share an infographic highlighting the success of the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances launched one year ago (December 5, 2017). The Helpline is the statewide, public resource for finding substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services in Illinois. Since it launched, the Illinois Helpline has received more than 8,000 calls, providing information and referral services to individuals as they seek help for themselves or others.

Enhancements have been made to Helpline services including warm transfers, follow-up calls, and the ability to provide immediate feedback. The Illinois Helpline has been one of several successful projects implemented to address the opioid crisis in Illinois.

The Illinois Helpline infographic, attached and available at https://helplineil.org/app/aboutus, provides a snapshot of the services provided to date. We are very proud of the Illinois Helpline since it has consolidated and streamlined the substance use referral process in Illinois. Feedback about the Helpline is always welcome and should be addressed to helpline@hria.org.

Providers are reminded that the best way to ensure the success of the Illinois Helpline is to update your information on its website through the provider portal. For example, the Helpline needs to know providers' office hours to complete warm transfers, where the Helpline specialist links callers to treatment programs, making it easier for the caller to connect with a provider.

In addition, the Illinois Helpline has developed digital and hardcopy materials that anyone can download or order through the Helpline website at https://helplineil.org/app/order.
