IDHS/SUPR HELPLINE FOR OPIOIDS AND OTHER SUBSTANCES REACHES 6,000TH CALL AND LAUNCHES NEW FEATURES
Six thousand calls have been answered at the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances. As we continue to enhance the features of the Helpline, we need your help to ensure callers are finding your services.
More than 6,000 people have called the Helpline since its launch last December and with three new features being added, Helpline Specialists will be equipped to better serve callers and increase access to treatment across the state.
- Licensed Clinicians will now offer follow-up services to Helpline callers to help them navigate through potential treatment barriers and offer next steps to support recovery.
- Warm Transfers will allow Helpline staff members to link callers directly to treatment programs whenever possible and make it easier for them to connect with a provider.
- Another new feature will let callers provide feedback about their experience with the Helpline, immediately after their call. Feedback will be reviewed and analyzed each month to assess Helpline performance and identify areas for improvement.
While various population groups and areas of the state have been differentially impacted by opioid use-related problems, virtually all communities and residents of our state have in some way been impacted by the opioid crisis. Perhaps none of these problems has heightened the awareness of the public to the same degree as the dramatic increases in opioid overdose deaths. According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention, opioid deaths continue to rise across the country; more than 72,000 national opioid overdose deaths in 2017.
As SUPR moves forward with additional improvements to the Helpline, it is critical that providers utilize the Provider Portal to update programs, contact information, and intake hours. Many services will not function at their best without your accurate information in the portal. To facilitate participation, providers can expect changes in contractual language during this fiscal year.
Helpline staff had sent out an email reminder in previous weeks, so please make sure that these emails are not going to your organization contact person's Spam email folder.
