The Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (IDHS/SUPR) has been given an extraordinary opportunity by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to host a webinar on the Trauma-Informed Approach. This webinar will provide an overview of the Trauma-Informed Approach, impact of trauma and the steps for implementing the Trauma-Informed Approach in organizations.

Following this FREE webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Define and describe trauma, the Trauma-Informed Approach and the steps for implementing the Trauma-Informed Approach in their organization;
  • Determine their level of readiness for implementing the Trauma-Informed Approach in their agency after the completion of a short survey following the webinar; and
  • Have the opportunity to attend a one-day workshop to develop a plan for implementing the Trauma-Informed Approach in their agency (Chicago area, save the date: August 14, 2018).

Who Should Attend?

The Trauma-Informed Approach includes all members of the organization. Providers from public and private substance use disorder and mental health organizations serving adults, youth and children should attend this webinar. At least one representative from each area of the organization should attend the webinar, including, but not limited to the following:

  1. Upper and mid-level leadership, such as the Agency Director, Chief Executive Officer and supervisors;
  2. Front line staff, such as therapists, case managers, support staff, peer support specialists, financial staff, janitorial staff, kitchen workers, bus drivers, etc.;
  3. Family and youth representatives; and
  4. Anyone else in the organization that may benefit from this webinar.

About the Trainer

Becky King is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has worked in the field of substance use disorders and mental health services for the past 26 years. She has been the Program Administrator for the Utah State Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health providing oversight for statewide women, youth and family programs since 2007. She is serving as the Utah State Opioid Treatment Authority and providing oversight for the Utah State Youth Treatment Implementation and the Utah Opioid State Targeted Response (STR) Grant Projects.

In 2009, Becky was an Associate in the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment National Women's Addiction Leadership Institute then served as a Coach in 2016. Throughout her career, she has provided clinical supervision for social work interns and individuals working toward their clinical licensure. She is currently supervising the Social Work Team for AFI Advanced Care Home Health and Hospice. She has a Bachelor of Music from Brigham Young University (1991); an Associate of Science in Ethnic Minority Health and Human Services (1994); and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Utah (1997).
