Volume XI, Issue XL - June 2018

From: Danielle L. Kirby, Director
Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery

The Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) has launched the statewide Helpline website to provide access to treatment and recovery support services for those impacted by Substance Use Disorders (SUD).

The website, HelplineIL.org, complements the Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances (1-833-2FINDHELP) with additional ways of accessing confidential resources 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The website helps individuals with substance use disorders or family and friends to find the best treatment options available as well as information on Naloxone, the lifesaving overdose reversal medication. Individuals can search for the treatment that best suits their needs based on the type of substance used, location, gender and insurance. All entries are completely confidential. The website also offers information about how one can access help for a loved one affected by opioid use or other substance use disorders.

The Illinois Helpline for Opioids and Other Substances (1-833-2FINDHELP) was announced in December 2017 and funded by federal grant dollars that the State of Illinois secured from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Opioid State Targeted Response grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery. Callers are assisted by Helpline specialists trained in evidence-based approaches who connect callers with treatment, recovery support services, and/or other appropriate resources.

Accurate SUD program information is essential to maintaining an accessible system of substance use prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. If you have not already done so, please log in and update or verify the information listed for your programs. Providers are expected to continue to maintain their program's Helpline profile by logging in to the Provider portal and making changes as they occur. Please refer to the previous Smart Alert about the Provider Portal for further details.

Providers are encouraged to distribute the Helpline number widely. The website includes a link to order FREE business cards at https://helplineil.org/app/order. Graphics, such as website badges and banners, will soon be available as well.
