Volume XI, Issue XXXVII - May 2018

Governor Bruce Rauner issued a Proclamation declaring July 23, 2018 as the inaugural Workforce Development Forum Day (Workforce Day) in Illinois. The Proclamation declares 2018 as "the inaugural year of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Division of Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR) hosting a Workforce Development Forum in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC), and Illinois Association for Behavioral Health (IABH), which seeks to increase the number of high school, college, and university students that choose to join these specialized disciplines." A copy of the Governor's Proclamation is attached and will be posted at: https://www2.illinois.gov/sites/serve/Pages/Proclamations.aspx.

Furthermore, this day has been designated by IDHS/SUPR as the first annual celebration of educating Illinois youth and students about the importance of a highly qualified and compassionate Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder workforce as a means of promoting prevention, helping individuals build and sustain a life in recovery, and addressing the current opioid crisis.

This year, IDHS/SUPR will be partnering with the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute (CBTI) to educate and encourage the future leaders of Illinois through a diverse panel of speakers about the importance and diversity of careers in the behavioral health field at CBTI's annual 4-day leadership conference for high school and college students.

The event will be held at Eastern Illinois University (EIU) and live streamed at several satellite sites across the state. SUPR welcomes all behavioral health providers in Illinois to identify high school and college students to register for the event. High school students may register to attend the leadership conference in-person at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois at the Teen Institute's website, found here: http://cg-ti.org/.

High school and college students who cannot attend in person but are interested in watching the online live stream of the event can register at: https://www.naadac.org/illinois-workforce-forum.
