Policy Statement:

Teen parents enrolled full-time in elementary or high school or GED classes are eligible for full-time, full-year child care eligibility, including summers, when using a licensed child care provider, up to and including a three-month period after graduation Teen parent means parents through 19 years of age.

Procedure:

A parent under 20 years of age who is enrolled in elementary or high school or a GED program is eligible for child care assistance.

  1. Required Documentation
    1. High school schedule and/or verification of enrollment in GED program,
    2. Two most recent and consecutive pay stubs, if employed. Please refer to 01.03.02 for those applicants who have not been employed long enough to have received two pay stubs
  2. If eligible, approve care for twelve (12) months.
  3. If the client is using a licensed child care center (760), home (762) or group home (763), approve 5 full-time days per week.
  4. If the client is using a license-exempt provider, the number of eligible days and type of days (full time vs. part time) will be determined by the client's activity schedule and allowable transportation and study time.
  5. Reasonable study and travel time, if requested by the parent, will be considered when determining the child care schedule. Do not approve care if the parent is studying at home.
  6. If the teen parent is temporarily suspended from school for 90 days or less, child care services received by the family may continue.
  7. If the teen parent is expelled from school, child care services received by the family may continue for a period not to exceed 90 days to enable the teen to enroll in another approved program.
