Laura Garcia has joined the Illinois Department of Human Services/Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (IDHS/DASA) as Deputy Director of the Bureau of Licensure, Compliance and Monitoring. Laura has worked in the field of substance use disorder treatment and recovery services for almost two decades and holds a Masters of Arts in Applied Professional Studies from DePaul University. She is a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and has served as a board member for the Illinois Certification Board (ICB) for the last three years.
Laura is very knowledgeable in many facets of the substance use disorder field and has served as Director of Clinical Programs for the Salvation Army; Program Administrator for Healthcare Alternative Systems (HAS); and, previously as a Compliance Monitor at IDHS/DASA. Laura's education and extensive experience has well prepared her for her new position.
