The Illinois Information Technology Accessibility Act (IITAA), requires that State of Illinois departments, divisions, agencies, offices, and universities ensure that their information technology and systems are accessible to individuals with disabilities. Under the Act, the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) is required to lead a review of the IITAA accessibility standards every three years and update the standards to reflect changes in technology.
As provided in the Act, IDHS will be convening a working group of stakeholders to advise and assist in the process of updating the standards. IDHS will be arranging the first meeting of the "IITAA Update Work Group" for late March, with exact time and location(s) to be determined based on participation. If you would be interested in participating, please sign up using the IITAA Standards Update Workgroup Signup.
After the update of the standards is completed, the amended standards will be published at this website. IDHS plans to have this completed by July 18, 2017. In accordance with the Act, all State entities will then have six months to make any necessary changes to incorporate the amended standards into IT procurement and development policies and procedures. The updated standards will then apply to information technology developed, procured, or substantially modified after that date, currently expected to be January 18, 2018.
