Dear Community Providers:

DHS/DMH has learned that the Illinois Department of Finance and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) is implementing a new paperless process which will affect some of our current regulatory practices. Specifically, IDFPR will no longer be sending actual licenses to licensees upon renewal. While there are plans for a digital printing function to be developed, our understanding is that this is not yet available. Rule 132 requires providers to maintain documentation of the licenses of staff. Therefore, we will implement the following interim steps until such time as the digital printing functionality is operational.

  1. We are notifying the DHS/Bureau of Accreditation, Licensure and Certification (BALC) and the Collaborative of the new paperless process that IDFPR is implementing that will result in no actual licenses being sent to clinicians.
  2. We are instructing provider agencies to obtain a copy of the web Licensee Lookup image for each of their licensed professionals for the agency personnel file.
  3. BALC and the Collaborative will utilize the current Licensee Lookup to verify a sample of the professionals as part of the license/audit visit.

Once the digital printing functionality is operational, we will send another Communication Alert.
