- RE: Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services Emergency Psychiatric
The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS), in conjunction with Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), Division of Mental Health (DMH), has applied and been awarded funding under the Affordable Care Act for an Emergency Psychiatric Demonstration.
This demonstration provides limited federal funding for two hospitals categorized as Institutions for Mental Diseases (IMDs) for the purpose of evaluating if this resource would reduce the amount of time Medicaid eligible individuals spend in an Emergency Department (ED). The participating IMDs are Chicago Lakeshore Hospital and Riveredge Hospital. The participating hospital EDs are Weiss Hospital and Loyola Hospital.
As part of this demonstration, Illinois is also experimenting with several other policy and procedural changes, such as team-based, monthly case management. Community Counseling Centers of Chicago (C4) and Resurrection Behavioral Health are the case management providers for this demonstration. C4 and Resurrection may be calling you with more information about the role of CMHCs and your interest in participating with the case managers and the hospitals to be a service choice for individuals in this demonstration.
If you have questions after talking with C4 or Resurrection that they are unable to answer, please call Cathy Cumpston at (217) 524-0410 or Carolyn Cochran Kopel at HFS at (217) 524-7145.
