Subject: The Consolidation of SUD and Mental Health Services

As you are probably aware by now, the Illinois Division of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse (DASA) and the Division of Mental Health (DMH) have been charged with the task of exploring the consolidation SUD and mental health services. Two of the primary reasons that this effort has been promoted across the nation are to improve the efficiency of government by practicing more cost effective fiscal strategies as well as to better serve the co-occurring population.

In an effort to get information from key stakeholders, the Department of Human Services is approaching this task from different angles including but not limited to a literature review, consultation with other states that have undergone the process of consolidation, and to solicit comments from the provider community in Illinois regarding their thoughts on the process.

In order to facilitate this effort, the Department has arranged to have four scheduled town hall meetings for providers. These meetings are designed to solicit your ideas and opinions on the pros and cons of consolidating substance use disorder and mental health services. If you have questions, concerns, and ideas about how the process should go and what it should look like, now is the time to contribute your thoughts. The meetings are scheduled as follows:
