Division of Community Health & Prevention
Illinois Department of Human Services
Program Description
Target
Juveniles ages 12 and older at risk of placement into secure detention.
Purpose
Reduce the number of juveniles held in secure detention, i.e. county jails or municipal lock-ups.
Delivery Method
Illinois has embraced efforts to create alternatives to secure detention of juveniles. Through a partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Illinois Courts, Youth Network Council and DHS, a number of counties have been granted funds to develop community-based alternatives to detention. The program supports technical assistance activities to counties attempting to develop, implement and/or sustain detention alternatives.
