Program Description
Target
Victims of sexual assault, their families and friends. This includes adult survivors of child sexual abuse as well as survivors of recent assaults. Services are available regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, income, disability or sexual orientation.
Purpose
To reduce the incidence of rape and other forms of sexual assault and ensure that survivors of sexual assault have access to quality emergency medical care, crisis support, medical and legal advocacy and counseling services for themselves, families and friends.
Services
Free crisis services are available 24 hours per day. Services include 24-hour hotline; 24 hour response to victims at hospital emergency rooms and police stations; assistance with follow-up medical care and criminal justice procedures, counseling and advocacy for victims and their families and friends.
The rape crisis centers conduct training and prevention programs for local schools, law enforcement, hospitals and civic groups.
Delivery Method
The Bureau of Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention funds the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault which consists of 34 sexual assault crisis centers and satellite offices located through out the state.

Program Accomplishments
In FY2007, 9,427 adult, adolescent and child survivors of sexual assault, child sexual abuse and sexual harassment and 1,253 significant others were served by the sexual assault crisis centers of the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault. In addition, 8,671 anonymous contacts received support and assistance through the centers' hotlines. Victims and their significant others received 27,290 hours of advocacy services and 68,650 hours of counseling.
