Many find the language of the world of autism to be challenging. That's partly because much of what's discussed and written about autism contains unfamiliar terms and acronyms.
Acronyms are words formed from the first letters of the name of an organization or compound term. For example, IEP is the acronym for "Individualized Education Program."
You need access to at least one good glossary of terms to help you understand, especially when you're new to the autism community. The Interactive Autism Network Glossary may be helpful in learning "the language of autism."
The Interactive Autism Network is a project of the Kennedy Krieger Institute, supported by Autism Speaks, Simons Foundation, and the National Institute of Mental Health (NINH).
