Social Services are delivered to vulnerable populations through more than 150 federally funded contracts with not-for-profit organizations, local governments, and educational institutions. Examples of services for:
The Bureau also provides administrative oversight for the federally designated Empowerment Zone and Enterprise Communities (EZ/EC). The EZ/EC has brought about significant change; communities have been impacted by new housing, new jobs, improved healthcare, and increased opportunities.
Funding for services is provided through the Title XX Social Services Block Grant, which enables the Department of Human Services to fund the Bureau of Title XX Social Services, its contractors, and other services within the Department of Human Services. The block grant's goals are economic self-support, self-sufficiency, preventing neglect, abuse of children and adults, and preventing or reducing institutional care. Examples of these services are child care, domestic violence intervention, home services, family planning, and health support.
