AmeriCorps

Helping Families. Supporting Communities. Empowering Individuals.

Administered by: Bureau of Community-based and Primary Prevention

AmeriCorps is a national service program that involves people in "getting things done" in communities, develops an ethic of service among those who serve, and strengthens communities. The Serve Illinois Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service (Serve Illinois) administers 22 AmeriCorps programs across the state who engage over 800 AmeriCorps members, 18-65 years of age.

AmeriCorps members provide a variety of services as determined by local needs, including tutoring and mentoring youth, teaching health education classes and leading community volunteers in service.

AmeriCorps members receive a small living stipend and an education award to pay back qualified student loans or attend an institution of higher education.  The education award for a full-time member is $4,725.  Full-time members are also elegible for health care and, if income eligible, child care benefits.
