Foundation Funding Opportunity

- The Seed Fund -

The Seed Fund supports new, emerging and small community based organizations that are actively engaged in social change work. Funding is provided for general operating, start up costs, or project expenses.

Seed Fund grantees are emerging, risk-taking grassroots groups with innovative strategies for creating change. They are led by people whose voices have often not been heard, in communities that often go unnoticed. They address complex and challenging issues and practice new working models. Early support from Crossroads Fund is a stepping stone from which many groups move on, gain visibility, and create lasting change throughout Chicago and beyond.

Maximum Grant Award:

$10,000 for general operating, start-up costs, or project expenses.

Eligibility Criteria:

Chicago area organizations with annual expenses under $300,000 which meet Crossroads Fund's funding criteria.  Crossroads Fund supports non-profit organizations, including those that do not have 501(c)3 status. Fiscal sponsorship for those organizations without tax-exempt status is recommended but not required. If a fiscal sponsor is not used, an organizational bank account is required.

To comply with IRS regulations, Crossroads Fund cannot:

  • support private, in contrast to public, interest.
